The Collins name is common throughout counties Cork and Limerick, and in the province of Munster in general. The name means ‘a young creature’, from the Gaelic “Coileán”, meaning ‘a young dog’. The hand knit Collins sweater has a honeycomb central panel, flanked by cables, blackberry-filled diamonds and honeycomb rope on either side. The honeycomb stitch represents work, the cable stitch represents a wish for good luck, and blackberry is symbolic of the Holy Trinity.
